Cyberbullying is a direct form of harassment that occurs virtually and is propigated by online users. These users can harass others either anonymusly or with public accounts. The methods they use to harass victims often vary and can differ in the amount of harm they cause to the victim and can range from a minor annoyance to stalking. However, the expierence the victim has from this form of harassment is always unpleasant.
Cyberbullying is using technology to bully people. Most of cyberbullying takes place on: social media, messaging platforms, gaming platforms, and mobile phones. Unicef.org says “ people usually spread lies, post embarrassing things, send harmful/hurtful messages, and impersonate the victim in order to bully them”. With the use of technology, the bully has free reign to do what he wants against the victim. Sherri Gordon says”Those who get cyberbullied usually require therapy or someone to talk to for them to recover”. Depending on how much the bullying affected the person will be how much time it requires for them to recover.
Many victims go through depression and harmful thoughts to themselves or others because of cyber bullying harassment. Some people may already have depression and then they are cyber bullied into doing things it can also cause trauma and doubt. Cyber bullying can affect someone’s mental state and well-being well also adding onto the hardships that they may already have cyber bullying can stop someone from bettering themselves and seeking treatment for things that they need.
